Gaya Street Market Kota Kinabalu

Gaya Street Market

Gaya Street Market Kota Kinabalu is held every Sunday and starts at about 6am till 2pm. Located along the main street in town near the Jesselton Hotel, this popular local market sells a variety of local items from food, household, plants and even pets. Don't be surprised to see some odd items being sold here. If you are visiting KK City over the weekend, make sure you allocate time to visit this unique Sunday Market.

Local Handicraft sold at the Sunday Market
For those who like markets, the Gaya Street Market is a must visit. Best time to come here is around 8am till noon. Some of the stalls start to close at about 1pm. You also get a chance to see some of the rare Borneo Orchids being sold at this market.

Sea Shells sold at the market

Among the items, you see traders selling all sorts of sea shells which have been allocated for sale by the marine parks or imported from the Phillippines. A wide variety of local Sabah food is also sold here including cakes and desserts. A great place for the family, one should not miss the Gaya Street Market.

Manuakan Island Sabah

Manukan Island in Sabah

Manukan Island is located just 15 minutes from Kota Kinabalu City in Sabah. There are many boat services heading to the island throughout the day and you can catch the boats from Sutera Harbour or Jesselton Pier. Usually travelers head to this island for a full day trip or half day trip.

Manukan Island Beach

The island is part of the Tungku Abdul Rahman Marine Park which has a total of five islands located nearby to each other. It is also great for snorkeling and there are scuba diving facilities available here where therte is only one resort here. The pictures above were taken in July 2010 during one of my many trips to Manukan Island.
